Why We're Built Different
About Us
Having undiagnosed ADHD my entire life took its toll. A truly brilliant underachiever, I kept wondering—how could I still be this broken after all this time? Lost jobs, lost relationships, and just plain getting lost—it was a cycle I couldn't seem to break. No matter how hard I tried, I kept managing to Pho Cup every good thing that came my way...
One day recently, while my son was being diagnosed for ADHD, I was given the book Dirty Laundry. It’s about a couple dealing with late-diagnosed ADHD. As I read the book, I realized that I had the EXACT SAME THING—as if this person was describing my daily life struggles verbatim. Everything clicked. I wasn’t broken—I was just Built Different.
All this time, I had been given special gifts that ‘normal’ people could only dream of. Sure, they come with a cost, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Now, I embrace my weirdness. I no longer have to pretend to be someone I was never meant to be.
When I started talking to my closest friends about my ADHD discovery, it turned out they also had varying degrees of ADHD. It was something we just hadn’t discussed. Except for one of us, none of us really understood what ADHD actually was.
Built Different is us finally putting ourselves and our neurodivergent humor out into the world. Many of these designs and ideas have been swirling around for years—ideas we once thought were too weird to share. But when we finally did? It almost instantly became Built Different.
Now, here we are—three neurodivergent friends, starting a company that celebrates minds like ours. We have dedicated ourselves to bring awareness to Late Diagnosis ADHD through divergent humor. We laugh our way through every meeting, and we hope that through all that laughing, you can see just how serious we are about not being serious.
Welcome to Built Different. You belong here.
